Question

Why I cannot change the camera codec to H.265?

Answer

All NVR 9000 series devices support H.265, H.264, and MJPEG codec formats. If you find that H.265 is not listed in the codec list after adding the cameras, it might be because the cameras do not support that codec. If you are using VIVOTEK cameras, ensure that the devices added are from the 9000 series, as only our 9000 series cameras support the H.265 codec.

If you are using other series (such as the 8000 or 7000 series), you won't be able to select the H.265 codec because the cameras themselves do not support this codec. To understand which codecs each series supports, please refer to the following table:

7000 Series

8000 Series

9000 Series

H.265 X X O
H.264 X O O
MJPEG O O O
MPEG4 O X X

If you are using ONVIF compliant devices, be sure to check in their product specifications that they are compatible with H.265 codec.
