How to verify FPS on Arecont / Contera cameras

Note: Ensure all cameras and software are at current revisions.

Issue:

The frame rate that is set in the camera web interface does not match what is being displayed in a third party VMS.

Resolution:

1. Disconnect the camera from the VMS.
2. Download and install VLC.
3. Click  Media > Open Network stream.
4. Type in the RTSP stream of your camera.
   • For Arecont Vision cameras click here.
   • For Contera cameras click here.
5. Click Convert.
   
   
   
   
6. Click Browse and specify a location to save the video.
7. Click Save then click Start.
   
   
   
   
8. Let it run for 30 seconds to a minute. You should see the counter in the lower left increment.
   
   
   
   
9. Click Stop.
10. There are 2 ways to verify the FPS from this point.
    1. Option 1
       • Right click on the camera and select Properties.
       • Click the Details tab.
         
         
         
         
    2. Option 2
       • Open the file in VLC.
       • Click Tools > Codec information.
