This guide helps you get the Recovery Code (recorder’s MAC address) via the Swann Security software on PC or Mac.
Find Your Model Number
Before anything else, you'll need your recorder’s model number.

Once you have your model number, enter it below: e.g DVR16-5580
Set Up Physical Connection
- Connect the recorder to the router using an Ethernet cable.
- Connect your Windows PC or Mac to the same router.

Download and install Swann Security on your computer:

Open Swann Security on your computer. When click then

Take note of the MAC Address shown.

Recorder Not Visible in Software
Confirm network connection

- Ensure both recorder and computer are on the same router/subnet.
- Check if the Ethernet cable is plugged in.
- If the computer is connected via Wi-Fi, try connecting it to the router hardwired using Ethernet cable.
Refresh device list
- Reboot your router first, then your recorder, and try again.
Temporarily disable firewalls
- Windows Defender/macOS firewall or antivirus may block discovery—Turn them off temporarily, refresh device list, then re-enable.
